RESUMO

The step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction has excellent redox capability, effectively degrading organic pollutants in wastewater. Combining S-scheme heterojunction with activated persulfate advanced oxidation process reasonably can further enhance the degradation of Emerging Contaminants. Herein, a novel zero-dimensional/one-dimensional (0D/1D) CoO-CuBi2O4 (CoO-CBO) photocatalyst with S-scheme heterojunction was designed by hydrothermal and solvothermal methods. The band structure and electron and hole transfer pathway of CoO-CBO were analyzed using the ex-situ and in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Ultraviolet and Visible Spectrophotometer (UV-Vis) and optical radiation Kelvin probe force microscope (KPFM), and the formation of S-scheme heterojunction was demonstrated. The photocatalytic activity of ·S-scheme CoO-CBO heterojunction was carried out by degrading tetracycline (TC) with activating potassium monopersulfate triple salt under visible light. Compared with pure CuBi2O4 and pure CoO, 30%CoO/CuBi2O4 catalyst exhibited the highest TC degradation performance after activating persulfate, degrading 89.5% of TC within 90 min. On the one hand, the S-scheme heterojunction formed between CoO and CBO had a high redox potential. On the other hand, the activation of persulfate by Co and Cu could accelerate redox cycles and facilitate the generation of active radicals such as SO4-, O2- and OH, promoting the separation of the photogenerated e- and h+ in the composite, enhancing the peroxydisulfate (PDS) activation performance and improving the degradation effect of TC. Then, a gradual decrease in the toxicity of the intermediates in the TC degradation process was detected by ECOCER. In all, this study provided an S-scheme CoO/CuBi2O4 heterojunction that can activate PDS to degrade TC efficiently, which provided a new idea for the study of novel pollutant degradation and environmental toxicology.

RESUMO

Guangxi, China, is one of the world's largest karst regions where potential toxic elements tend to accumulate, resulting in high soil background values. This study explores the ecological risk, elemental baseline values, and sources of potential toxic elements in karst regions, expanding the research to include 21 common elements. The significance of this research lies in its implications for the management of potential toxic element pollution, the formulation of environmental quality standards, and soil remediation in karst areas. In this study, 12,547 topsoil samples (0-20 cm) were collected in the study area. Pollution assessment and ecological risk evaluation of eight potential toxic elements (Zn, Ni, Cu, Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr, and As) were conducted using the geo-accumulation index method and potential ecological risk index method. Multivariate statistical analysis was applied to analyze the total content of 21 common elements (Zn, Ni, Cu, Pb, P, Cd, Hg, Co, Mn, Cr, V, I, S, As, pH, Se, N, CaO, Corg, Mo, and F). Additionally, the potential sources of 21 soil elements were preliminarily quantitatively analyzed using the principal component analysis-absolute principal component scores-multiple linear regression receptor model. The results showed that (1) Zn, Ni, Cu, Pb, Cd, Cr, V, and As were enriched in the research area and Ca, Cd, Mn, Mo, Hg, As, and Cu might have been influenced by human activities; (2) Cr, Pb, As, and Zn were generally lightly polluted, with Hg having a moderate potential ecological risk level; and (3) Ni and Zn have contributions of 37.99% and 35.07% from geological sources, agricultural fertilization, and pesticides. Mo, V, Cr, Se, Hg, and As exhibit contributions ranging from 39.44 to 59.22% originating from geological backgrounds and human activities. Corg, S, N, and P show contributions of 45.39% to 80.33% from surface vegetation. F, Co, Mn, and Pb have contributions ranging from 31.63 to 47.93% from acidic rocks in the soil parent material, mining activities, and transportation. Cd and CaO derive 31.67% and 40.23%, respectively, from soil parent material and industrial sources. I has 31.94% from geological background and human activities, and 31.95% from soil parent material and atmospheric sources. Cu has 30.56% from geological sources. The study results can serve as a scientific basis for element research in karst areas domestically and internationally.

RESUMO

Land surface temperature (LST) is a crucial parameter in the circulation of water, exchange of land-atmosphere energy, and turbulence. Currently, most LST products rely heavily on thermal infrared remote sensing, which is susceptible to cloud and rain interference, leading to inferior temporal continuity. Microwave remote sensing has the advantage of being available "all-weather" due to strong penetration capability, which provides the possibility to simulate time-continuous LST data. In addition, the continuous increase in high-density station observations (>10,000 stations) provides reliable measured data for the remote sensing monitoring of LST in China. This study aims to adopt the "Earth big data" generated from high-density station observation and microwave remote sensing data to monitor LST based on deep learning (U-Net family) for the first time. Given the significant spatial and temporal variability of LST and its sensitivity to various factors according to radiation transmission equations, this study incorporated climatic, anthropogenic, geographical, and vegetation datasets to facilitate a multi-source data fusion approach for LST estimation. The results showed that the U-Net++ model with modified skip connections better minimized the semantic discrepancy between the feature maps of the encoder and decoder subnetworks for 0.1° daily LST mapping across China than the U-Net and U2-Net deep learning models. The accuracy of the LST simulation exhibited favorable outcomes in the spatial and temporal dimensions. The station density met the requirements of monitoring air-ground integration monitoring in China. Additionally, the temporal change in the simulation accuracy fluctuated in a W-shape owing to the limited simulation capability of deep learning in extreme scenarios. Anthropogenic factors had the largest influence on LST changes in China, followed by climate, geography, and vegetation. This study highlighted the application of deep learning in remote sensing monitoring against the background of "big data" and provided a scientific foundation for the response of climate change to human activities, ecological environmental protection, and sustainable social and economic development.

RESUMO

Background: Elderly individuals diagnosed with high-grade gliomas frequently experience unfavorable outcomes. We aimed to design two web-based instruments for prognosis to predict overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS), assisting clinical decision-making. Methods: We scrutinized data from the SEER database on 5,245 elderly patients diagnosed with high-grade glioma between 2000-2020, segmenting them into training (3,672) and validation (1,573) subsets. An additional external validation cohort was obtained from our institution. Prognostic determinants were pinpointed using Cox regression analyses, which facilitated the construction of the nomogram. The nomogram's predictive precision for OS and CSS was gauged using calibration and ROC curves, the C-index, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Based on risk scores, patients were stratified into high or low-risk categories, and survival disparities were explored. Results: Using multivariate Cox regression, we identified several prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) in elderly patients with high-grade gliomas, including age, tumor location, size, surgical technique, and therapies. Two digital nomograms were formulated anchored on these determinants. For OS, the C-index values in the training, internal, and external validation cohorts were 0.734, 0.729, and 0.701, respectively. We also derived AUC values for 3-, 6-, and 12-month periods. For CSS, the C-index values for the training and validation groups were 0.733 and 0.727, with analogous AUC metrics. The efficacy and clinical relevance of the nomograms were corroborated via ROC curves, calibration plots, and DCA for both cohorts. Conclusion: Our investigation pinpointed pivotal risk factors in elderly glioma patients, leading to the development of an instrumental prognostic nomogram for OS and CSS. This instrument offers invaluable insights to optimize treatment strategies.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is a common musculoskeletal disease affecting infants and young children. If CMT is not treated correctly and timely, it can lead to limited head and neck movements, head and neck deviation, and abnormal posture. In order to improve patients' symptoms and alleviate the negative impact of the disease on their lives, we are committed to exploring the treatment of CMT. METHODS: The general clinical and ultrasonographic data of 2599 children with CMT who received standardized treatment at Shenzhen Children's Hospital from 2004 to 2020 were retrospectively reviewed. According to given treatment, children with CMT were divided into the physiotherapy group, physiotherapy combined with glucocorticoid treatment group, and surgical treatment group. We divided children with CMT into local mass, uniform thickening, and atrophy according to ultrasound features. General clinical information, treatment, and ultrasound examination data in each group were compared. Additionally, electronic medical records of 2344 patients admitted due to CMT in 17 tertiary children's hospitals of China's Futang Research Center of Pediatric Development (FRCPD) from 2015 to 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Data on sex, age, year of admission and discharge, and treatment costs during hospitalization were extracted from the first medical record pages according to the ICD codes. The data were assessed for normality using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Depending on the data distribution, they were analyzed using parametric tests, such as the t-test, or non-parametric tests. Qualitative data are expressed as percentages (%) and analyzed using the chi-square or Fisher's exact probability test, with α = 0.05 as the test level. P < 0.05 was considered to be indicative of a statistically significant difference. RESULTS: Three types of CMT were defined based on sternocleidomastoid muscle ultrasound examination characteristics: local mass, uniform thickening, and atrophy. Age at first diagnosis was 69.21 ± 108.41 days in local mass type group, 216.85 ± 324.09 days in uniform thickening group, and 417.88 ± 739.05 days in atrophy- type group; while age at first physiotherapy use was 94.06 ± 206.49 days, 255.00 ± 430.62 days, 540.92 ± 1059.29 respectively. The children included in local mass type group have shown a high success rate of conservative treatment, with a rate of 7.5% of children underwent surgery. Age at first diagnosis was 112.44 ± 224.12 days in the physiotherapy group, 115.87 ± 144.86 days in the physiotherapy combined with glucocorticoid treatment subgroup, whereas the age at first physiotherapy use was 137.38 ± 312.11 and 196.91 ± 344.26 days respectively. In the observation period (2015-2019) the mean age at surgery for CMT in 17 tertiary children's hospitals of the FRCPD was 50 months. Overall, 663 children with CMT were 1-2 years of age, accounting for the largest proportion (28.3%). Followed by 417 individuals (17.8%) were 7-14 years of age, indicating that there are still more children with CMT receiving surgical treatment later. CONCLUSIONS: Early diagnosis and treatment are essential to improve the conservative treatment success rate and achieve good prognosis in children with CMT. Our team's concept for treating CMT is as follows: after diagnosing the children, we will adopt the standardized protocol of treatment, with physiotherapy combined with the injection of glucocorticoid drugs and SCM release surgery, when needed. This program has a high conservative treatment success rate and may facilitate the achievement of better prognosis and reduced teratogenicity rate.

RESUMO

As an important part of urban public open space, pocket parks have become an important activity place for the elderly in the context of the aging society in China. With the pocket parks in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, China as research object, this paper set six landscape features to be studied, namely, Height of trees, Green color richness, Stratification of green landscapes, Green space ratio, Leisure facilities, and Water landscape. The elderly respondents with different demographic characteristics, such as age, gender, education level and residential type, were subjected to the picture stimulation experiment whose results were then statistically analyzed. The results indicate that gender and residential type exert certain influence on the elderly's visual impact assessment of pocket park landscape. To be specific, the male elderly prefer the pocket park landscape with 3-6 m high trees, medium green space ratio, and more leisure facilities; the female elderly are in greater favor of pocket park landscapes with 0-3 m high trees, five or more colors, three or more layers; the elderly who live with their families prefer pocket park landscapes with medium green space ratio and more leisure facilities; to the elderly who live alone, pocket park landscapes with trees which are 0-3 m high, five or more colors, and medium leisure facilities are more attractive. This study can provide valuable reference for pocket park design in China.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the most burdened chronic respiratory disease in the world, resulting in a reduced quality of life and limited physical activity for patients. Pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is an effective therapy for COPD. Effective PR relies on an accurate pulmonary rehabilitation program. An adequate pre-rehabilitation assessment helps healthcare professionals to develop an accurate pulmonary rehabilitation program. However, pre-rehabilitation assessment strategies lack specific selection criteria and an assessment of the patient's overall functioning. METHODS: This study explored the functional characteristics of COPD patients before pulmonary rehabilitation and collected COPD patients from October 2019 to March 2022. A cross-sectional survey of 237 patients was conducted using the ICF brief core set as the study tool. Latent profile analysis identified subgroups of patients with different rehabilitation needs based on body function and activity participation. RESULTS: Four subgroups of functional dysfunction were identified: 5.42%, 21.03%, 29.44%, and 34.11% in the high dysfunction group, the moderate dysfunction group, the lower-middle dysfunction but high mobility impairment group, and the low dysfunction group, respectively. Patients in the high dysfunction group were older, had a higher proportion of widowed spouses, and experienced more exacerbation. Most patients in the low-dysfunction group did not use inhaled medication and had a lower participation rate in oxygen therapy. Patients with a more severe disease classification and symptom burden mostly belonged to the high dysfunction group. CONCLUSIONS: COPD patients require an adequate assessment before implementing a pulmonary rehabilitation program to determine their rehabilitation needs. The four subgroups were heterogeneous in terms of the degree of functional impairment in body function and activity participation. Patients in the high dysfunction group can improve basic cardiorespiratory fitness; patients in the moderate dysfunction group should focus on improving cardiorespiratory endurance and muscle fitness, patients in the lower-middle-dysfunction but high mobility impairment group should focus on improving mobility and patients in the low functional disability group should focus more on preventive measures. Healthcare providers can tailor rehabilitation programs to the functional impairments of patients with different characteristics. TRIAL REGISTRATION: This study has been registered in the Chinese Clinical Trials Registry (ChiCTR2000040723).

RESUMO

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: As regression approaches have been used more recently to model the effectiveness and health-related quality of life (HRQOL) of novel migraine treatments, an example is provided for fremanezumab. The objective is to estimate the distribution of mean monthly migraine days (MMD) as a continuous variable and corresponding migraine-specific utility values as a function of the MMD, to inform health states in a cost-effectiveness model (CEM). METHODS: Three longitudinal regression models (zero-adjusted gamma [ZAGA], zero-inflated beta-binomial [ZIBB], and zero-inflated negative binomial [ZINBI]) were fitted to Japanese-Korean clinical trial data of episodic (EM) and chronic migraine (CM) patients treated with fremanezumab or placebo, to estimate MMD over a period of 12 months. The EQ-5D-5L and the migraine-specific quality-of-life (MSQ), mapped to the EQ-5D-3L, questionnaires were used to measure HRQOL. Migraine-specific utility values were estimated as a function of MMD using a linear mixed effects model. RESULTS: The ZIBB models fitted the data best in estimating the distribution of mean MMD over time. MSQ-derived values were more sensitive than the EQ-5D-5L values for the effect of the number of MMD on HRQOL, with higher values for less MMD and more time on treatment. CONCLUSIONS: Using longitudinal regression models to estimate MMD distributions and linking utility values as a function is an appropriate method to inform CEMs and capture inter-patient heterogeneity. The observed distribution shifts demonstrated fremanezumab's effect at reducing MMD for both EM and CM patients, while treatment effect on HRQOL was captured by MMD and time on treatment.

The current study provides an example of an approach that can be used to estimate the number of migraine days per month and the quality of life of migraine patients. The outcomes of this approach can give an impression of how well a patient reacts to a new migraine treatment called fremanezumab. In this study, different mathematical equations were used to measure the migraine days per month and quality of life over a period of 1 year. The data came from Japanese-Korean patients that participated in clinical trials. The patients reported the number of days that they had migraine and their quality of life was measured with two validated questionnaires. With the gathered data, the quality of life was calculated for the number of migraine days that a patient could have per month. Patients who had the fewest migraine days and were treated the longest with the new treatment reported the best quality of life. The investigated approach is an appropriate method to measure the impact of fremanezumab on the number of monthly migraine days and a patient's quality of life. The measurements of this approach can be linked to other parameters in an economic model to estimate the costs required to reach a certain level of treatment effect with this new migraine treatment.

RESUMO

Introduction: Corneal disease is a leading cause of blindness globally that stems from various etiologies. High-throughput platforms that can generate substantial quantities of corneal grafts will be invaluable in addressing the existing global demand for keratoplasty. Slaughterhouses generate substantial quantities of underutilized biological waste that can be repurposed to reduce current environmentally unfriendly practices. Such efforts to support sustainability can simultaneously drive the development of bioartificial keratoprostheses. Methods: Scores of discarded eyes from the prominent Arabian sheep breeds in our surrounding region of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) were repurposed to generate native and acellular corneal keratoprostheses. Acellular corneal scaffolds were created using a whole-eye immersion/agitation-based decellularization technique with a widely available, eco-friendly, and inexpensive 4% zwitterionic biosurfactant solution (Ecover, Malle, Belgium). Conventional approaches like DNA quantification, ECM fibril organization, scaffold dimensions, ocular transparency and transmittance, surface tension measurements, and Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy were used to examine corneal scaffold composition. Results: Using this high-throughput system, we effectively removed over 95% of the native DNA from native corneas while retaining the innate microarchitecture that supported substantial light transmission (over 70%) after reversing opacity, a well-established hallmark of decellularization and long-term native corneal storage, with glycerol. FTIR data revealed the absence of spectral peaks in the frequency range 2849 cm-1 to 3075 cm-1, indicating the effective removal of the residual biosurfactant post-decellularization. Surface tension studies confirmed the FTIR data by capturing the surfactant's progressive and effectual removal through tension measurements ranging from approximately 35 mN/m for the 4% decellularizing agent to 70 mN/m for elutes highlighting the effective removal of the detergent. Discussion: To our knowledge, this is the first dataset to be generated outlining a platform that can produce dozens of ovine acellular corneal scaffolds that effectively preserve ocular transparency, transmittance, and ECM components using an eco-friendly surfactant. Analogously, decellularization technologies can support corneal regeneration with attributes comparable to native xenografts. Thus, this study presents a simplified, inexpensive, and scalable high-throughput corneal xenograft platform to support tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and circular economic sustainability.

RESUMO

Quantum dots (QDs) are zero-dimension nanomaterials with excellent physical and chemical properties, which have been widely used in environmental science and biomedicine. Therefore, QDs are potential to cause toxicity to the environment and enter organisms through migration and bioenrichment effects. This review aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic analysis on the adverse effects of QDs in different organisms based on recently available data. Following PRISMA guidelines, this study searched PubMed database according to the pre-set keywords, and included 206 studies according to the inclusion and elimination criteria. CiteSpace software was firstly used to analyze the keywords of included literatures, search for breaking points of former studies, and summarize the classification, characterization and dosage of QDs. The environment fate of QDs in the ecosystems were then analyzed, followed with comprehensively summarized toxicity outcomes at individual, system, cell, subcellular and molecular levels. After migration and degradation in the environment, aquatic plants, bacteria, fungi as well as invertebrates and vertebrates have been found to be suffered from toxic effects caused by QDs. Aside from systemic effects, toxicity of intrinsic QDs targeting to specific organs, including respiratory system, cardiovascular system, hepatorenal system, nervous system and immune system were confirmed in multiple animal models. Moreover, QDs could be taken up by cells and disturb the organelles, which resulted in cellular inflammation and cell death, including autophagy, apoptosis, necrosis, pyroptosis and ferroptosis. Recently, several innovative technologies, like organoids have been applied in the risk assessment of QDs to promote the surgical interventions of preventing QDs' toxicity. This review not only aimed at updating the research progress on the biological effects of QDs from environmental fate to risk assessment, but also overcame the limitations of available reviews on basic toxicity of nanomaterials by interdisciplinarity and provided new insights for better applications of QDs.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This study aimed to assess the quality of life (QOL), before and after surgery, of patients who underwent open reduction and internal fixation for orbital fractures. STUDY DESIGN: A prospective study. PARTICIPANTS AND SETTING: The self-report outcome measures of 50 patients treated at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Jiamusi University from January 2016 to June 2019 were prospectively collected. MAIN MEASURES: The quality of life was assessed using four patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs): the 15D questionnaire, Oral Health Impact Profile-14 (OHIP-14), Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), and 36-item Short Form Survey (SF-36). Both descriptive and comparative data analyses were calculated. RESULTS: Zygomaticomaxillary complex fractures were the most encountered (40.3%). The total OHIP-14 scores before and after treatment were 1.72 and 1.68, respectively. Vision, breathing, sleeping, eating, usual activities, discomfort and symptoms, and vitality showed minimal changes in the 15D questionnaire. The HADS scores were ranged from 0 to 7, indicating no anxiety or depression. The comparison of SF-36 scores after 3 months and after ≥6 months of treatment revealed no significant difference. CONCLUSIONS: Patients' QOL was minimally impacted by orbital fractures and their treatments. The severity of the negative impact can be minimized if appropriate management strategies are taken.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Bronchiolitis is a common acute lower respiratory tract infection (ALRTI) and the most frequent cause of hospitalization of infants and young children with ALRTI. Respiratory syncytial virus is the main pathogen that leads to severe bronchiolitis. The disease burden is relatively high. To date, few descriptions of the clinical epidemiology and disease burden of children hospitalized for bronchiolitis are available. This study reports the general clinical epidemiological characteristics and disease burden of bronchiolitis in hospitalized children in China. METHODS: This study included the face sheet of discharge medical records collected from 27 tertiary children's hospitals from January 2016 to December 2020 that were aggregated into the FUTang Update medical REcords (FUTURE) database. The sociodemographic variables, length of stay (LOS) and disease burden of children with bronchiolitis were analyzed and compared using appropriate statistical tests. RESULTS: In total, 42,928 children aged 0-3 years were hospitalized due to bronchiolitis from January 2016 to December 2020, accounting for 1.5% of the total number of hospitalized children of the same age in the database during the period and 5.31% of the hospitalizations for ALRTI. The male to female ratio was 2.01:1. Meanwhile, more boys than girls were observed in different regions, age groups, years, and residences. The 1-2 year age group had the greatest number of hospitalizations for bronchiolitis, while the 29 days-6 months group had the largest proportion of the total inpatients and inpatients with ALRTI in the same age group. In terms of region, the hospitalization rate of bronchiolitis was the highest in East China. Overall, the number of hospitalizations from 2017 to 2020 showed a decreasing trend from that in 2016. Seasonally, the peak hospitalizations for bronchiolitis occurred in winter. Hospitalization rates in North China in autumn and winter were higher than those in South China, while hospitalization rates in South China were higher in spring and summer. Approximately, half of the patients with bronchiolitis had no complications. Among the complications, myocardial injury, abnormal liver function and diarrhea were more common. The median LOS was 6 days [interquartile range (IQR) = 5-8], and the median hospitalization cost was 758 United States dollars (IQR = 601.96-1029.53). CONCLUSIONS: Bronchiolitis is a common respiratory disease in infants and young children in China, and it accounts for a higher proportion of both total hospitalizations and hospitalizations due to ALRTI in children. Among them, children aged 29 days-2 years are the main hospitalized population, and the hospitalization rate of boys is significantly higher than that of girls. The peak season for bronchiolitis is winter. Bronchiolitis causes few complications and has a low mortality rate, but the burden of this disease is heavy.

RESUMO

Green technology innovation is one of the driving forces of industrial structure upgrading. This innovation is thought to be related to environmental regulation. The study uses panel data for 30 Chinese provinces and cities from 2009 to 2020 and presents a comprehensive research-based explanation of how environmental regulations impact green innovation. This study employs the spatial Durbin model to analyze the spillover effect of the region. The results show that the total impact of environmental regulations is 0.223%, of which the direct effect is 0.099%. This impact includes the effects of both formal and informal environmental regulation. It indicates that ecological regulations significantly enhance green technology innovation. Furthermore, the spatial spillover effect is significantly positive at the 1% level with a coefficient of 0.124. Such spillover effects represent a learning effect of regional environmental regulation. Based on the results, the study suggests a few policy measures based on the detailed outcomes.

RESUMO

The oxidation/weathering of molybdenite (MoS2) is too slow to be monitored, even under pure oxygen and high temperatures, while it proceeds rapidly through humid air. The adsorption of water molecules on molybdenite is necessary for the wet oxidation/weathering of molybdenite. Therefore, we employ kinetic Monte Carlo modeling to clarify the adsorption isotherm, site preferences and kinetics of water on different surfaces of molybdenite. Our results indicate that (1) the adsorption capacity and adsorption rate coefficient of H2O on the (110) surface are significantly larger than those on the (001) surface at a temperature of 0~100 °C and a relative humidity of 0~100%, suggesting that the (110) surface is the predominant surface controlling the reactivity and solubility of molybdenite in its interaction with water; (2) the kinetic Monte Carlo modeling considering the adsorption/desorption rate of H2O, dissociation/formation rate of H2O and adsorption/desorption of dissociated H indicates that the adsorption and dissociation of H2O on the (110) surface can be completed in one microsecond (ms) at 298 K and in wet conditions; (3) the adsorption and dissociation of H2O on molybdenite are not the rate-limiting steps in the wet oxidation/weathering of molybdenite; and (4) kinetic Monte Carlo modeling explains the experimental SIMS observation that H2O and OH (rather than H+/H- or H2O) occupy the surface of MoS2 in a short time. This study provides new molecular-scale insights to aid in our understanding of the oxidation/weathering mechanism of molybdenite as the predominant mineral containing molybdenum in the Earth's crust.

RESUMO

N, S co-doped bio-carbons with a hierarchical porous structure and high surface area were prepared using a molten salt method and by adopting Entermorpha prolifera (EP) as a precursor. The structure and composition of the bio-carbons could be manipulated by the salt types adopted in the molten salt assisted pyrolysis. When the carbons were used as an activating agent for peroxydisulfate (PDS) in SMX degradation in the advanced oxidation process (AOP), the removal performance in the case of KCl derived bio-carbon (EPB-K) was significantly enhanced compared with that derived from NaCl (EPB-Na). In addition, the optimized EPB-K also demonstrated a high removal rate of 99.6% in the system that used local running water in the background, which proved its excellent application potential in real water treatment. The degradation mechanism study indicated that the N, S doping sites could enhance the surface affinity with the PDS, which could then facilitate 1O2 generation and the oxidation of the SMX. Moreover, a detailed techno-economic assessment suggested that the price of the salt reaction medium was of great significance as it influenced the cost of the bio-carbons. In addition, although the cost of EPB-K was higher (USD 2.34 kg-1) compared with that of EPB-Na (USD 1.72 kg-1), it was still economically competitive with the commercial active carbons for AOP water treatment.

RESUMO

Background: As human beings enter the digital age, the impact of the digital economy on environmental regulation and corporate green technology innovation (CGTI) is expanding. In order to effectively strengthen the efficacy of environmental regulation and improve the green technology innovation ability of corporate, this paper conducts in-depth research on the influence process of the digital economy and environmental regulation on the CGTI. Methods: Based on the mediating variable environmental regulation, this paper explores the influence process of the digital economy on CGTI. Combined with empirical analysis methods such as the fixed-effect model, mediating effect model, spatial model and regression analysis, the authors reveal the influence process of the digital economy on CGTI. Results: The digital economy can directly promote the improvement of the green technology innovation level of CGTI. The digital economy can indirectly affect the CGTI through the mediating variable of environmental regulation, marginal effect and spatial spillover effect. Conclusions: The digital economy and CGTI had a significant spatial correlation among different regions in China. In different regions of China, there are significant differences in the relationship between the digital economy, environmental regulation and CGTI.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Congenital TORCH (Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii), rubella virus (RV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and herpes simplex virus (HSV)) infections are associated with a variety of adverse prenatal and neonatal events, including miscarriage, malformations and developmental abnormalities, and they remain an issue that cannot be neglected in China. However, the current research focuses more on the general screening of TORCH in women of childbearing age, and the medical information of children hospitalized due to congenital and perinatal TORCH infections has not been described in detail. This study summarized and analyzed the epidemiological characteristics, clinical manifestations, length of stay (LOS), and the disease burden of hospitalized children diagnosed with congenital TORCH infections in 27 children's hospitals in China. METHODOLOGY: Based on the face sheet of discharge medical records (FSMRs) of hospitalized children in 27 tertiary children's hospitals collected in the Futang Research Center of Pediatric Development and aggregated into FUTang Update medical REcords (FUTURE), we summarized and analyzed the epidemiological characteristics, clinical manifestations, LOS, the disease burden (in US dollars, USD) and potential risk factors for hospitalized children diagnosed with congenital toxoplasmosis, congenital rubella syndrome, congenital cytomegalovirus infection, and congenital HSV in 27 children's hospitals in China from 2015 to 2020. RESULTS: One hundred seventy-three patients aged 0-<1 year were hospitalized for congenital TORCH infections. Among infections with TORCH, hospitalization with congenital toxoplasmosis was the least common, with only five cases were reported (2.89%), while the LOS was the highest. The proportion of patients with congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) was 15.61%, and 86% of children hospitalized with CRS had cardiovascular malformations, and the economic burden was the highest. Congenital CMV infection cases accounted for the largest proportion (76.30%). Overall, 5.20% of patients were infected with HSV, and the expense of hospitalization for congenital HSV infection was relatively low. CONCLUSION: In the present study, the hospitalization proportion due to congenital TORCH infection was extremely low (17.56 per 100,000 neonates), indicating that China's congenital TORCH infection prevention and control policies remain effective. The lowest proportion of patients was hospitalized with congenital toxoplasmosis, while the LOS was the longest. The economic burden of CRS was heavy, and infants are recommended be vaccinated against RV in a timely manner. Congenital CMV infections accounted for the largest proportion of patients, suggesting that the disease burden of congenital CMV infection cannot be ignored, and the prevention of congenital CMV infection during pregnancy is still an important issue that needs to pay attention. The expense of hospitalization for congenital HSV infection was relatively low, while the disease burden increases significantly when patients develop complications. These data illustrate the importance of improving screening for congenital TORCH infections in the early diagnosis and treatment of neonatal patients.

RESUMO

In this study, a large construction waste dump in Beijing, China, was used as the study area. Nineteen effective atmospheric dust samples were collected. The mass fractions of 14 metal elements (Ca, Fe, Al, Mg, Mn, Zn, Cr, Cu, V, Pb, Ni, As, Co, and Cd) were determined for the samples using ICP-MS. The pollutants and the potential ecological risk levels of 10 different heavy metals were evaluated using the enrichment factor, geo-accumulation index, and a potential ecological risk assessment method. The results showed that the Ca, Fe, Al, and Mg contents in the dust fall were considerably high and accounted for 98.81% of the total mass of the analysed metals. Cd and Zn were the main metal contaminants in the dust fall in the vicinity of the construction waste dump, followed by Cu and Mn. The Cd, Zn, Cu, and Mn contents in the construction waste had a significant impact on atmospheric pollution within 250 m of the dump. Moreover, Cd had the largest contribution to the comprehensive ecological risk posed by the heavy metals in the dust fall and was determined to be the primary ecological risk factor in the atmospheric environment in the vicinity of the construction waste dump.

RESUMO

Food wastewater is associated with greenhouse gas emission and has a significant water footprint. Here, the platform chemical n-caproate was recovered from liquor brewing wastewater at maximum and mean concentrations of 26.4 g/L and 17.0 ± 4.3 g/L, respectively, after 377 d operation. Laboratory-scale lactate-driven chain elongation (CE) process was implemented first. Taxonomic composition and metagenomic data analyses revealed that Caproiciproducens (e.g., Ruminococcaceae bacterium CPB6) and bacteria affiliated with Lachnospiraceae transformed lactate to n-caproate by reverse ß-oxidation and/or fatty acid biosynthesis. The lactate-driven CE process was then scaled up from 2.5 L to 500 L and achieved a n-caproate production of 14.5 ± 0.6 g/L within 96 h. n-Caproic acid was extracted at a concentration and purity of 815.9 ± 8.3 g/L and 88.6 ± 8.9 %, respectively. The present study demonstrated a commercially viable strategy for resource recovery and carbon fixation from food waste streams.
